If There Was a Honeymoon, It's Definitely Over Now

Donald Trump hasn’t been in the White House for even a week yet, but his administration is already cracking at the seams. As the “The Fix” reports, Trump’s staff appears to be growing weary of working with His Hairness:

All White Houses leak. Sometimes the leaks are big, sometimes small. But there are always people willing to talk to reporters about the “real” story or about why the chief executive made a mistake in regards to some decision he made.

That said, I’ve never seen so much leaking so quickly — and with such disdain for the president — as I have in the first six days of Donald Trump’s presidency…

…At odds with all of this, however, is the fact that Trump is both deeply proud and hugely image-conscious. Having to read and watch allegedly loyal “aides” casting him as a sort of feckless child constantly in need of guidance wouldn’t seem to be the sort of thing that would sit well with him. [Pols emphasis]

The headline of this story is pretty brutal in itself: “The leaks coming out of the Trump White House cast the president as a clueless child.” The important point to remember here is that Trump can’t shrug this off as the mean media out to get him — these are Trump’s people speaking out to the press of their own volition.

As for the news media, it appears that journalists are already wary of President Trump’s disdain for using things like facts. Yesterday the editorial board of the Denver Post lit into Trump for his apparent inability to tell the truth about anything:

The United States of America deserves to have a president who tells the truth.

The fact that we feel compelled to make this observation, so early in the new presidency of Donald Trump, suggests that the country is in for a long and miserable four years. Trump and his spokesman, Sean Spicer, need to start telling the truth.

Trump’s gut reliance on making claims that were demonstrably untrue worked fabulously for him on the campaign trail. He eviscerated opponents and knocked back investigative news stories with disturbing frequency and success. His doing so was one of the many reasons we could not and did not support his campaign.
