Neil Gorsuch Confirmed to Supreme Court

Neil Gorsuch.

No surprise here — the drama had ended earlier this week — but as the Washington Post reports:

The U.S. Senate confirmed Neil M. Gorsuch to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, capping more than a year of bitter partisan bickering over the ideological balance of the nation’s highest court.

On a vote of 54 to 45, senators confirmed Gorsuch, 49, a Denver-based judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. He will become the 113th person to serve on the Supreme Court and is scheduled to be sworn in Monday.

Gorsuch replaces former justice Antonin Scalia, whose sudden death in February 2016 sparked a year-long partisan fight over the ideological balance of the court. Gorsuch will be thrust into the final weeks of the Supreme Court’s term. The last round of oral arguments for the term is scheduled to begin April 17, and the term ends in June…

…Gorsuch will be sworn in Monday by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., who will administer the constitutional oath in a private ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Supreme Court. Justice Anthony M. Kennedy will administer the judicial oath at a public ceremony at the White House later that day.

Senator Cory Gardner (R-Yuma) voted YES to approve Gorsuch, while Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Denver) voted NO (as Bennet explained on Thursday).

      1. Well, it does mean one less Republican in Boulder.  Frankly, that cuts that city's right-wing population in half.  Jon Caldera will get lonely.

  1. So, a guy named Mitch came into my home and stole my TV!  He even admits as much.  Did he go to jail?  No!  He even gets to use my TV and doesn't have to return it to me.  Oh, and I’m supposed to accept this quietly because he might want to steal my other TV.

I guess the rule of law is over in America.

  2. There is no honor among thieves.

The Trump Billionaire Club has been given the keys to the Treasury by Mitch McConnell and the Republican Kleptocracy. The Republican Party has co-opted American democracy and is dead set on killing the democratic process and instituting a plutarchy, in which power will be handed down like it is in all dictatorships….to the hand-picked successors of the New American Aristocracy. Trump and the Republican Gang of Billionaires will soon be arranging for Jared Kushner to be the next governor of New York.

Mitch has secured his place in history. He was a principle architect of the return of the Dark Ages… to America.
