What you can do to fight back this week (May 30)

  • by: ProgressNow Colorado

At the White House, the purge has begun.

President Donald Trump returned from a disastrous nine-day trip abroad, in which he embarrassed our nation and alienated some of America’s closest allies, to face the swirling controversies swamping his administration and a domestic agenda the public overwhelmingly rejects in poll after poll. Today, White House Communications Director Mike Dubke has resigned, the first of what news reports say will be a mass firing of White House staff as Trump seeks to stabilize his rapidly failing presidency.

As the Trump administration begins to break down under the weight of scandal and incompetence, the time for resistance is now. No one can say today whether Trump will even still be President after 2018, but it is critical that we start working now to hold Trump and Republicans who enable him accountable. The great work you are doing week after week to keep the pressure on Trump and Congress is slowing their destructive agenda. Right-wing lawmakers who ran for years on a platform of taking away health coverage from millions of Americans and destroying the institutions that make America great are suddenly afraid to keep their promises.

Let’s keep the pressure on. Here are ways to fight back for the week of May 30th:

FEATURED EVENT: March for Truth Denver

We call for a #MarchForTruth to raise our voices and let our elected leaders know that Americans want answers. Coloradans of all political stripes will be marching to demand transparency, impartiality, and immediacy in the investigation of Russian ties to the Trump campaign and his administration on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Commons Park in Denver. Denver’s March For Truth will be one of 94 marches in U.S. cities nationwide, along with two in Europe.

Where: Commons Park, 2101 15th St, Denver
When: Saturday, June 3 at 11:00am

Water Justice Community Meeting/Reunion de Justicia de Agua

We will hear from community members on the safety of their water and discuss how we can collectively fight to ensure all our voices are heard in order to ensure everyone has access to safe drinking water. Access to safe drinking water is a basic human right that is not being afforded to communities of color and low income communities. This is because of a historic lack of investment and prioritization of development in our communities by our elected officials, government entities, and corporations.

Where: Colorado People’s Alliance, 700 Kalamath St, Denver
When: Wednesday, May 31 at 6:00pm

The Resistance Is Ready to Fight For Healthcare

Surgery shouldn’t lead to bankruptcy. Chronic illness shouldn’t mean you can’t get coverage. Filling prescriptions shouldn’t mean choosing between treatment or groceries.

Where: Anythink Wright Farms, 5877 E. 120th Ave, Thornton
When: Wednesday, May 31 at 6:15pm

Spring Denver Green Forum

March For Truth – Colorado Springs

Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, and the alleged collusion by the Trump campaign, demands answers. Make no mistake: this is a brazen attack on our open society. This is foundational to our democracy. Hundreds of cities nationwide will gather SAT JUN 3 for the #marchfortruth, so please join Colorado Springs to publicly raise our voices and show not only the administration, but also our local, state, and congressional representatives, that we demand nothing less than the truth. We demand it now.

Where: Colorado Springs City Hall, 107 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs
When: Saturday June 3 at 10:00am

Resisting Oppression & Exploring Privilege

Want to delve into your own head and heart to learn more about how to strenthen your work as an activist in the realms of racial and social justice? Resisting Oppression, Exploring Privilege is for white people who want a better understanding of how privilege and racism operate in society and inside of them. This workshop will be facilitated by the inspiring and accomplished Jes Ward and Gregory Diggs. This will be an open, honest, and courageous conversation about race.

Where: Shorter Community AME Church, 3100 Richard Allen Ct, Denver
When: Sunday, June 4 at 5:00pm

Thanks again for everything you’re doing to take our country back from the fringe. Here’s to an historic summer of resistance! It’s a privilege to play a small part in this fight to defend the values that keep America great.
