As a reminder, we will be holding an election for two new front-page editors Friday-Sunday. The new editors will start around July 1st, and barring anything unexpected will hold their position until the end of 2009–at which time we’ll hold another election. Remember, we’ll hold one poll of nominees, and the top two finishers from that poll will win the coveted front page editor spots.
Complied from discussion over the last few days (below the fold). If you have any last-minute additions, they’d better be good.
Nominees for Front Page Guest Editor
Barron X
Jambalaya
JeffcoBlue
Karate Kid
Libertad
Steve Harvey
ThillyWabbit
Twas Brillig
Laughing Boy (incumbent)
redstateblues (incumbent)
Also, several people said that ClubTwitty should be on the ballot whether he likes it or not and we’re inclined to agree.

I think we have a couple above that have never posted a diary. What do you think about a requirement being that you must have posted a decent diary to run?
It’s a bit late to institute new requirements to keep out the people you don’t like.
I think they all need to be over age 35 and own property in Colorado to run.
a significant part of the role is to write diaries. My hope is that those who have not done so write something now, not that we drop anyone.
This is like saying that if you want a job delivering pizzas, you have to have a car.
That should be obvious.
Besides, RSB and LB hardly ever wrote diaries as I recall (there have been a few, but far from daily in frequency).
I’ve just written so many comments it only seems like I never write diaries.
Besides, you’re one to talk, Mr. I’ve Only Written One Diary. Ever.
but compared with your predecessor, David “Master of Diarying” Thi, I’m afraid anyone would seem like an infrequent writer of diaries.
Just that it’s not really essential for being a good front-pager. A lot of the time it’s more important to promote other people’s work anyway.
And I might write another diary eventually, but lately there hasn’t been anything where I’d have a particularly unique perspective.
Though if it becomes relevant at some point (say, some local politician does something stupid and dishonest with numbers), I’ll do it.
some of us have their own blogs, and posting a diary here is extra work.
It’s a silly requirement. Candidates should be judged by what they do here, not by what they don’t do.
Then again, not all of us own our own companies but get demoted anyway.
You know I love you, David, even if I give you a hard time. I hope your demotion doesn’t mean you’ll have to actually work all day and you can still post frequently.
It’s amazing how reducing the workload from impossible to barely managable actually sets you up to work harder. I think it’s that now I can (barely) get everything critical done.
It’s weird not looking at any news or blogs all day long.
I just want to know that we’ll get front page diaries from the two people promoted. Otherwise what’s the purpose?
.
I am so sorry. I never bothered to open the earlier discussion on this topic.
This is an undeserved honor, to be nominated. Thank you.
But I am not up to the responsibilities at this time. My business is going down the tubes, and I may well have to take a 9-to-5 job very soon.
I respectfully request permission to withdraw my name from consideration.
.
Sorry about that. This economy sucks so bad.
What’s more important, political discussions or your business? Think hard now …
I say he stays.
Know all about that whole business going down the tubes thing from personal experience although ours is finally starting to pick up again. Hope good things are coming your way soon. Was planning to vote for you.
LB, are you still willing to serve?
.
God is good, and will provide.
.
and I still thin you would be a great FP Editor. I’ll throw in if you will.
.
I think that circumstances are getting the best of me, and I should be posting less, before I really embarrass myself with something hurtful to one of my friends here.
.
and my business has already gone down the tubes. But I still intend to vote for you anyway.
I can’t think of a better Conservative voice/referee on this page than you.
Link the names to their accounts, so people can click on the name and see the comments and diaries easily.
I especially want Republicans to vote for me, because for all you know I’m a double agent waiting for my moment to strike. Call Dick, he’ll tell you if you have the clearance.
“Ille qui nos omnis servabit.” That’s your signal to do what I say, remember?
jeffcoblue and redstateblue.
Because you will post mindless dribble, and the stuff Pols isn’t forced to take down because it’s bullshit or libelous (or both) will be deconstructed so fast you’ll quit the job and run for Mommy like the rest of these GOP wussies who got elected.
As a matter of fact, with the exception of the asshole who tried to out LB, I haven’t seen anything happen to the righties who cry that they’re not being trated fairly here, and post these stupid GBCW diaries as part of their half-baked strategy to popularize shitty right wing blogs, that makes me think they are anything but sucky debaters with a shortage of facts. Eventually they tire of getting the crap kicked out of them and decide they are being persecuted.
They are welcome to prove me wrong, but all I see are discredited talking points from whiners with chips on their shoulders for Colorado Pols. I don’t blame them coming to the biggest blog in the state to state their case, but I have a different theory for why they keep complaining about the heat in the kitchen.
“There are some who feel like that the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is bring them on,” Bush said.
re: ignoring my request…
I was going to vote for Barron X, since I think a conservative voice–from someone who knows how to post a cogent argument–is a good thing.
I was out of town the last week, thus only occasionally glancing at the original diary. I miss Laughing Boy, and would applaud a good conservative front page editor. Sadly Tadpole and KK” don’t cut it IMO.
I’ll throw my first (non-binding) vote for ThillyWabbit but would like to hear others weigh in before polls open this weekend.
the Kid communicates better then me do too 😉
RedGreen and Aristotle should be among the nominees. They are clearly some of the best, most articulate and informed posters here.
and I’ll second the nomination for Ari if he’s got the time, but I’ve got a takeover bid in on The Weekly Standard, and if that prick Anschutz doesn’t pull a fast one, I should have my own media outlet to run.
“RedGreen, it is your destiny.”
You know it, you can’t argue with darth vadar.
If I end up on the final ballot I’ll probably serve. But I wouldn’t be an everyday guy, and I probably won’t be around much to argue with those who dispute my take on things. So keep that in mind, my fellow Polsters – and again, that’s if they decide to throw my name in there…
I think I’m going to vote for KK and TW. I think logic and general knowledge escape the kid, but he can write. And TW’s work speaks for itself.
I don’t think guest editors need to be “everyday” anyways. It’s not like this is a paying gig.
Or is it… do I sense George Soros somehow behind this? Intriguing…
Just kidding, but I like the idea of you and KK as front-pagers. That has the potential for either great back and forth or great hilarity or both.
Agree about TW as a close second though.
.
first, he might give up to about $5,000 for something that costs $75,000 to operate.
But then he would require some acknowledgment such as “grand beneficent sponsor.”
I applied for a grant from OSI once. I know how chintzy and self-aggrandizing he is.
He wouldn’t let you pay more than about $1 per hour to a full-time staffer. Get other grants, he’d tell you. Get volunteers.
.
In 2002, OSI said on their website that they were working to overthrow Saddam.
I was seeking a grant for efforts to try to prevent the outbreak of an illegal war there. They said I had to have someone inside Iraq on my team to qualify. I asked how many folks they had in Iraq.
Oh, no. They didn’t need anyone in-country. They were broadcasting into Iraq from outside. Way outside. I think it was Prague.
OSI is not really about opening up anything except opportunities for Mr. Soros to accept praise and gratitude.
.
Haven’t made up my mind yet. But KKK? Nope. Shouldn’t an “editor” have some semblance of honesty?
Ill informed, inexperienced, and bound to his ideology, but honest.
How honest are these statements from KKK on racism:
“I haven’t seen it
I’d be glad to comment if I’d witnessed it, but I’ve been to dozens of GOP events and I’ve never, ever seen it.”
and when proved wrong, he posts this a few comments later:
“Palin rally
Yes, you are right there was someone who yelled a racial epithet at that rally. I remember that.”
When he cannot acknowledge the racism problem, I do not believe he is being honest. Read this thread and tell me again how honest he is.
between being dishonest and being blinded by ideology. I believe KK is guilty of the latter. He actually reminds me a bit of Haners in that respect. Haners also did not see the racism in the GOP, or dismissed it as “fringe.” Hell, he didn’t even think the infamous Willie Horton ad was racist.
My take is that they’re both young kids with no real world experience with the realities of racism. If Haners were still here he’d take issue with that – he wrote about his mission in the South – but it only meant that for him, racism meant Klan-level hatred and not the many, many subtler varieties it came in.
Now, don’t think that I’m endorsing KK as even being anywhere near Haners’ level of intellect and understanding. I just don’t think he has any of the malice that would be the source of dishonesty. Another Skeptic the kid is not. But I do believe he’s blinded by his ideology, and was being honest with you in that exchange. (Note: being honest is not the same as being correct.)
The malice is evident. He misquoted my question, twice. Even after it was pointed out the first time he did it again. Honesty, that is not. And when RSB pointed out that there was widespread racism at Republican events during the campaign, KKK responded, “That’s just not true.”
When the evidence is overwhelming and you still deny it, I call that dishonesty. I guess if anyone was to follow your line of logic, we’d say that Holocaust deniers are honest people but are just misunderstood and “blinded by ideology”.
You’re proving to be one who lets anger get the better of him, however.
I guess I’m just willing to cut youngsters a little slack, and I’m speaking as someone who’s giving KK both barrels. You’re entitled to your opinion, of course; but I’m sticking with mine.
Get a clue, Ari. When you are wrong, just admit it.
I appreciate that you remembered KK’s attempt to deny that racism was everywhere at the McCain/Palin rallies last year, and I generally don’t really like his general Penry-shill style, but…
Ari is right here. I never even saw the extended part of that conversation, and from what you posted it looks like he basically acquiesced that there was some racism.
I don’t think he’s even comparable to Haners, but I agree with what he’s saying in general, which is that KK is at least halfway civil. I tried to engage him on health care the other day, and he actually responded quite thoughtfully IMO. I wish I had more time to debate the policy he was talking about, but there wasn’t malice and he seemed like he actually wanted to have an honest debate.
He also did a really good job pointing out that the Governor taking credit for green jobs was a sham, because the study he cited was done before he took office.
Considering almost every single right wing poster has disappeared from this site lately, it’s nice to have someone who can actually put a sentence together. If I had a choice of Karate Kid and Libertad, I’d choose Daniel-san any day of the week.
We are discussing dishonesty. And KKK has proven that dishonesty. When you told him that racism was widespread at Republican events and he denied it, was that an honest attempt to express reality? I think not. As you wrote,
Now which do you believe, that he had his eyes closed the entire campaign or that he was being purposely dishonest?
on the complacency and injustices facing the GLBT community. Now think about you are saying should be tolerated here. “Tips of icebergs” are everywhere.
Hey, on a blogging level it wouldn’t make two cents worth of difference to me if KKK was front page. He’d have an ardent follower proving him wrong. But, again, on the human level, I believe having a racism denier editing would be a shame we’d all have to carry. And I for one, refuse to be complicit in that “Culture of Discrimination”.
just ignorant.
When almost everyone who pays attention to the media knows it, when the facts are laid out in front of him and he still denies it, how can you claim “ignorance”? But if you do not want practice what you preach, only to apply “culture of discrimination” principles to some people and not “Daniel-san”, then have at it. I prefer not to be known as a hypocrite.
What we have here is a difference of opinion. You feel he’s being malicious. I’ve reviewed the evidence and don’t find it. I can see why you do; he’s a hardheaded little cuss, as my great grandfather would say. But admit I’m wrong? That’s for indisputable facts, like waterboarding is torture.
He was the one who actually won the election last time. Now that he’s back, he should at least get a chance to get elected again.
I would like to hear him say he would do the job, though.
through Danny’s popularity, I can stand on his shoulders all the way into 3rd place in Friday’s vote. When Danny sees that he’s won and has to post that he can’t do it, I will then ascend to office again without actually winning.
A sneak appointment. I’m gonna help put you in 3rd.
🙂
and then I’ll grab hold of the reins of power with a merciless iron fist.
Are incumbents listed because we can reelect? Or are there term limits?
after eight years?
Yes, the two incumbents will appear on the ballot, along with Aristotle. Nobody comes off from the discussion we see here, though we would want Danny to affirmatively say he would be willing to do it before we put him on.
We’ll post the ballot tomorrow morning, and we’ll leave it up until Sunday evening, by which time it will probably be well settled based on previous experience.
