Bad ideas die hard.
After failing repeatedly to pass legislation to repeal the increasingly popular Affordable Care Act, Republicans in Washington are trying once again this week. This time, they’re trying to repeal health care reform without a replacement—something Sen. Cory Gardner recently said he wouldn’t support, despite the fact that he has voted for similar legislation repeatedly.
Republicans are desperate to pass something—anything—to appease their wealthy donors and corporate special interests at the expense of millions of Americans who stand to lose coverage. There is a real danger that legislation far worse than anything we’ve seen so far could emerge from this chaos and quickly become law. Everything we’ve fought for up to now is on the line.
It is absolutely critical that Gardner and Senate Republicans see you haven’t lost hope. Almost every one of you have already called Gardner’s offices to demand he protect the Affordable Care Act instead of destroying it. The first thing I need you to do this week is pick up that phone and call again. Call over and over. Call every office:

And tell Sen. Gardner that the war on health care must end. Gardner must vote NO on any legislation that would repeal the essential health benefits of the Affordable Care Act or roll back Medicaid eligibility. The time has come for Republicans to admit defeat and work in good faith across the aisle to make the Affordable Care Act work. Anything else is unacceptable.
Once you’re done calling, check out more ways to take action for the week of July 24:

VOTE NO morning vigil at Senator Gardner’s office
Whether it is the BCRA or a flat repeal of Obamacare, the White House and Mitch McConnell are desperate to rush forward a motion to proceed on a bill that would leave either 22 million or 32 million fewer Americans with vital health coverage. That is unacceptable, and the bills’ draconian cuts to Medicaid are unfixable despite any tinkering to improve it around the edges or appease moderate senators. Please attend this vigil outside Senator Gardner’s office on the morning the Senate is expected to vote on the motion to proceed. As Coloradans, we have to let him know we’re not giving up until this bill is completely dead.

Now, more than ever, citizen lobbying on Congressional legislation is critical to protecting wildlife and the environment! With frequent legislative attacks to dismantle the Endangered Species Act, revoke the Antiquities Act, drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, permit the use of horrific hunting tactics in wildlife refuges, rollback critical laws including the Clean Water Act, and open our public lands to oil and gas development, we need an army of passionate, knowledgeable, and skilled citizens to lobby Congress! Whether you are a novice or an expert lobbyist, this training, led by Defenders of Wildlife’s National Outreach Representative, Caitlin Cattelino, and supported by additional environmental and wildlife organizations, is for you! This will also be a great opportunity to meet other wildlife and environmental activists in your community! All are invited and encouraged to attend!
