Now that the Graham-Cassidy bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act is officially dead, we’d like to revisit one interesting development that slipped out as the debate over the measure intensified: a statement attributed to Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado in the New York Times last week, claiming that an unnamed Republican donor from Colorado was closing his wallet until the GOP got its act together:
Gardner told his colleagues that a major Colorado contributor who played a role in his own campaign says party donors are reluctant to give any more money until congressional Republicans demonstrate results.
Since that time, there’s been much water-cooler speculation–who is this donor twisting Cory Gardner’s arm? They could always out themselves by speaking up, in fact under the circumstances it would probably be worth its own story. In the meantime, here’s a poll of some of the bigger Colorado Republican luminaries connected to Gardner’s 2014 win. Which do you think it is?
And will they have the courage to put their mouth where their money is?
