Patches Kennedy Gives Up Ghost

You know its bad for the Democrats when 42 year old – 8 term Congressman and lifelong Prince of the Political Class – “Patches” Kennedy – throws in the towel.

Kennedy could cite absolutely no reason for “his decision” to quit.

Taking no questions, he stated in his abdication speech that it had been a difficult few years for many people and illness had taken its toll.

R.I.P Patty.  I hope you can take advantage of the mental health safety nets you’ve created to get your act straight.

A review of Patches political activities, these can be found at his singlepage site: http://patrickkennedy.house.go…

As for his life outside the halls of policy and privilege Wikipedia cites this:

During Easter weekend in 1991, Kennedy and his father were in Palm Beach, Florida, along with Patrick’s cousin, William Kennedy Smith. At Au Bar, the 23-year-old Patrick met a 27-year-old Testas Restaurant waitress, Michelle Cassone, and Smith met another woman, Patricia Bowman. Both women returned with the Kennedys to the family’s beachfront retreat, where a series of events took place that resulted in Smith being charged with raping Bowman. The prosecution alleged that the three Kennedys collaborated to cover up this alleged crime. In a widely covered trial, Smith was acquitted.

In 2000, Kennedy was accused of pushing a female security guard at Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, California. City prosecutors ultimately decided not to bring criminal charges against him and he paid an undisclosed civil settlement to the alleged victim almost two years later.

Also in 2000, Atlantic Navigation Company of Mystic, Connecticut, claimed that a boat they rented to Kennedy was found abandoned off Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, with US$28,000 worth of damage.

That same year, the U.S. Coast Guard was dispatched to Kennedy’s yacht after he and his date became embroiled in an argument on his yacht off Martha’s Vineyard.

In 2003, Kennedy was criticized for saying “I have never worked a fucking day in my life”, which his staff later claimed was a satirical reference to repeated charges of never having worked.

In 2007, the Kennedy camp stated that they would retain $6,600 in donations from convicted Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu. Kennedy is one of the few Democrats not to return or donate these contributions. This is a controversial action because of the allegation that Hsu had been using his personal funds to unfairly influence Washington.

In February 2007, Kennedy was asked to refrain from receiving Holy Communion by his Bishop, Thomas Tobin. Kennedy said the bishop had explained the penalty by telling him “that I am not a good practicing Catholic because of the positions that I’ve taken as a public official,” particularly on abortion.

      1. Like Mayor Hickenlooper he needs to find a wife or life partner if he is homosexual.

“How well this event did or how well that event did – and then I’d take that all home, and it’s all on me,” he said then. “And then I don’t have a private life. I don’t have real personal connections. I don’t have a support system.”

The quote above from your post seems like an honest assessment of someone in his position.  His missing support system was – very likely – greatly enhanced with the passing of the Liberal Lion (the genesis of his Patches nickname).

Thanks for the insight Barron X.

          1. .

He seems to cope just fine, thank you very much.

But I have to tell you that, in my opinion, for someone with dependency issues like the Congressman appears to have, even a not-so-great marriage is usually a better support system than having to face the world alone.  Which is why, despite my vociferous opposition to gay marriage, I like that homosexuals can find love and companionship without that state sanction.

Life is hard.  Friends can make the unbearable bearable.  Which is why I want my kids to live with me, or me with them, when I get really old.

            .

            1. As to the homosexual option I feared if I assumed just because Patches had a girlfriend once that he is not homosexual then I may be called out for discriminating

I’d recommend Patches find himself a late 20’s early 30’s gal or dude who shares his values enjoy life on his yacht.
