Oh the tangled (internet) web we we weave…
Republican gubernatorial hopeful Carl P. Paladino has regularly forwarded pornography and racially degrading material to friends on the Internet, a local Web site with access to the material charged today.
WNYMedia.net released a series of e-mails depicting naked women, demeaning depictions of blacks, and one photo of a woman allegedly having sex with a horse that it claimed were forwarded by Paladino.
“Last week we received a series of e-mails through a source regarding racist and sexist e-mails Carl Paladino has sent to his mailing list over the years,” said Marc Odien, managing director of WNYMedia.net, who said he had verified Paladino as the forwarder with three knowledgeable sources.
The story gets worse in the details.
Odien released e-mail pictures that supposedly show Miss France having sex with a man, a photo of dancing African tribesmen entitled “Obama Inauguration Rehearsal,” a photo of President Obama and the first lady doctored to simulate a 1970s pimp and prostitute, and an e-mail showing chimpanzees doing an Irish dance entitled “proof the Irish discovered Africa.”
At a waterfront “tea party” event today, Paladino did not deny that he had sent the e-mails. A statement issued by his campaign acknowledged he sent them but blamed them on “just another liberal Democrat blog smear.”
“Many of these e-mails he received were off-color, some were politically incorrect, few represented his own opinion, and almost none of them were worth remembering,” said campaign manager Michael R. Caputo. “We’re not surprised the political establishment feels threatened by Carl’s drive to take Albany back for taxpayers.
“It figures that members of the party who brought us record taxes, record spending and record debt would want to change the topic from reform to having sex with horses and S&M parlors,” he added.
Paladino, when asked by reporters whether sending such e-mails was appropriate for a candidate running for governor, questioned the appropriateness of “Democrats” who he said were behind their release.
“The fact that they’re bringing it out is an attempt at smearing and they are mischaracterizing,” he said.
The Republican machine might like to pretend that flirting with the Tea Partiers does not jeopardize their goal of an electorally inclusive party–but then they open their mouth (or mouse forward).
