CPols Technical Issue List

  • by: Zappatero

Please feel free to add your own. I don't really expect them to do anything, but having them in one place may help.

  1. Unable to edit comments
  2. Comment error message "It appears this comment has already been posted" when posting comment for first time.
  3. Logon error "not found" when attempting to logon to CPols. Clearing cache seems to fix.
  4. Comment formatting very difficult to discern in "Source" mode. Going back to WYSIWYG mode usually reformats again.

I'm using Google Chrome, which could be an issue……..but most other sites work fine.

  1. 3. logon error "not found" is cured by reloading or refreshing (F5 on your PC keyboard)- I get that error when I'm trying to log on while already logged on (browser recognized cookie from the site, and automatically logged on).

    4. I can usually figure out what to delete or copy in source mode to make my comments look as I wish them to- it's the most basic of html tasks.

    5. It would be nice to be able to put videos in posts – it seems weird that one can post a video in a comment, but not a post.

    6. I notice that now, some comment abilities have been added – in addition to facebook posts, one can comment with google+ or yahoo. At least, I swear I saw that a couple of days ago – don't see it now.  Is pols experimenting with upgrading the version of CKeditor or WordPress?

  2. If you want to speed up your Pols experience (or any other site, for that matter), use your "incognito" window on Chrome or "private window" on Firefox, whatever options your browser of choice has. I've found it speeds it up twice as much.

It's sobering to realize how much all that tracking of sites visited and storing of cookies and marketing of ads slows down browsing. It's like an iceberg, the actual visible webpage being the part emerging from the water.

  3. The image sizing issue is mildly annoying, still (7/22/15). Whenever I try to post an image, it defaults to the maximum size for that image. Since I don't know html well enough to tweak the size in edit, the choice is to either post a gigantic picture, effectively hijacking the thread, or to just post a link or something.

    1. LMAO. Wrote a whole post about sizing images only to see it’s broken. Pols, the base image is 1600×1200. The first should show as 400×300 and the second as 200×150. They both show the same size. It looks like the CSS that’s added to the image tag gets stripped.

      #2

        1. The site is stripping image tags of their attributes.  I don't know if that's because I swap into and out of source view (I hesitate to make another test :)) or is happening regardless when the post is submitted.

          1. Consider it a feature. This way the thread doesn't get all wonky due to an oversize image. Also, dynamic sizing like this is part of a "mobile-friendly" website.

  4. You can open a thread for the first time, or return to one that you've previously visited, and there are no red "New" tags, so it's impossible to know which comments you've seen previously.
