  1. Two things to note before I head out to work this morning….

I have been watching Joe Scarboroughs' obsession this morning. He is consumed with Dem. bashing over the Keystone pipeline and is employing every rightie talking head and talking point to skewer the president and the Dems…but no one asked the important question…

If this is so important to Canada? Why not go west or east to get to the ocean?…

Because … CANADIANS DON'T WANT IT!

The First Nations will not allow it to cross the Canadian Rockies and NOBODY wants it to go east across the most heavily populated parts of Canada…particularly those French speaking folks in Quebec.

So let's just ship it to those refineries on the Gulf Coast of the US where it can be refined (making an enormous amount of pollution) into fuel and shipped to China and Japan, subjecting the U.S. to the risk of disaster.

Secondly…The photos of the Republican House leadership was released this morning…ALL white men…every one. There is one woman who was given a secondary leadership role…on the Administrative Committee…that is the one which manages the Congressional kitchen.

Not one minority either…..If you are a woman or a minority or are not a Christian fundamentalist and you voted for a Republican…you are a fool.

    1. The congressional kitchen? You can't make this stuff up. I firmly believe that while Rs love to point to the occasional woman or minority they elect, the truth is none of them has a snowball's chance in hell of advancing beyond a certain point in the power structure. They are like the racist bigots who claim some of their best friends are fill-in-the-blank. You know. The good ones.

No matter how much they may talk about a Bobby Jindal, for instance, the idea that someone who looks like him from an ethnic background like his would ever be the GOTP presidential nominee is laughable in the present GOTP. Not going to happen. If Jindal doesn't know that he's delusional but I expect he does. People like him will only ever be selected to run in safe red environments, the kind where a Republican rock could win.

With this latest (same as ever) leadership selection it's almost as if they go out of their way to see how cynical they can be with a straight face. As with Sarah Palin, this could (and probably will) be an SNL parody with no tweaking required. As with Tina Fey's Palin bits, the funniest parts of the "parody" would require zero exaggeration and not really be parody at all but ridiculous reality. Like their all white male panels on women's health issues.

      1. The birthers have already served notice that neither Piyush Jindal nor Nicki Haley is acceptable as a national candidate. Jeb Bush’s Latina wife as FLOTUS is as ethnic as they will tolerate.

    2. You are so correct.  I don't know why a person in their right mind (be it woman or man) would ever vote for a Republican.  Joe Scarborough is a jerk.  Most of the mornings I have to mute him when he goes on one of his rants.  And Mica just takes it like a meek little mouse.

  2. Repubs keep bringing up elimination of the EPA, but we still have workers getting killed in dangerous and non-compliant chemical plants – many of the largest of those are in Texas:

The Texas chemical plant where four workers died over the weekend after a leak of a toxic chemical used in insecticides has been cited dozens of times by state and federal regulators since 2007 — the last time federal inspectors visited the plant.

The workers at the DuPont plant in La Porte, about 30 miles southeast of Houston, died early Saturday after an estimated 100 pounds of methyl mercaptan leaked because of a faulty valve, company representatives said. A fifth worker was hospitalized but is expected to recover, the company said.

Methyl mercaptan is a main component of the popular insecticide Lannate, and exposure to even small amounts of the chemical can be fatal.

The fatal amount can be the size of a drop of water. Do we need to regulate that chemical? Do we need to require companies to provide safe working conditions when a pair of brothers can be killed almost instantly if that chemical leaks?

Not according to Republicans. For them, they want the Free Market to decide and they want giant chemical companies to be free to make that extra dollar.

Rachel found out this is actually one of the "better" chemical plants in Texas for safety and was not on the list of most dangerous plants in that area run by DuPont.
