  1. And, a good morning to Jon Keyser and all his (one) supporters . . .

Friday the 13th . . . pshah . . . what could possibly go wrong on such a fine day???

    1. What a reaction, far beyond the borders of Colorado media, to something a no name would be Colorado candidate has said. It's right up there with reactions to Chaps’ various insane pronouncements. Getting your name rec raised as the local joke candidate is one way to do, I guess.

      1. I believe it was the late actress Mae West (still around when we were kids) who said something like "there isn't any such thing as bad publicity (to which I would add, "unless you're a serial killer").

Unfortunately for Mr. Keyser, at best he's a bad actor and is now toast due to bad PR.

I like the quote at the top from Ed Abbey; one of the 20th century’s greatest enviros.

  2. Thanks for the Edward Abbey quote.  I organized a fundraiser in SLC with him as a speaker coincidentally on the day the Kaiparowits power plant was stopped.  He called out all of the "radical shitheads" that we were fighting.  It was one of the best days of my life.

    1. Sounds fun. I was always a fan. 3/10/89 I had a loss that caused me to totally, totally quit paying attention to anything but the needs of my son. Then I began to catch up and found that Abbey was gone

  3. As CPols (the owners, not the commenters) goes 24×7 on stupid Republicans (which is not really news), national Democrats proceed on their clueless quest to show how bipartisan they are while ignoring their growing and active base that is begging for some fearless progressive principles from its leaders:

After a week of scary headlines about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton being tied both nationally and in swing states and reports that Team Clinton is already looking into how to peel off some Republican voters, it’s the perfect time to revisit the lessons of 2010 and 2014: it’s all about the base.

Make whatever arguments you want about the presidential vs. midterms, but you neglect the base, you get trounced. One thing Obama did extraordinarily well in 2012, was court the base.

In an election year with two candidates who already have sky-high negatives and a contest that promises to get downright nasty, turnout will likely be depressed. So Democrats need to court voters who, above all else, won’t be dissuaded no matter what. Perhaps more than any other single Democratic constituency in 2016, Latinos are likely to go to the polls in droves, and Hillary Clinton stands to gain far more votes by mobilizing them on immigration issues than she does by peeling away a trickle of fickle GOP “Stop Trump” voters.

Quit going after voters that hate your guts and who are not persuaded by facts or guided by reality. Yes, all the Op-Ed pages will praise your magnanimity, but guess what? They're almost all owned by Conservatives.

  4. Attention Duke. Just FYI, I was doing some banking at my Safeway (my bank has a branch there) and remembered the name Dead Guy Ale from our previous discussion. So I thought I'd check out the newly expanded craft beer section and there it was. Over-size bottle of Dead Guy for something like $6.95. Remind me of that other one you mentioned….something Hand?…And I'll look for that one too. So if you ever find yourself in Littleton, yes you can get Dead Guy at the Safeway at Broadway and Mineral and lots of other brews too. Don't bother checking the little liquor store at Broadway and Ridge, though. smiley

    1. Good deal. Your store manager is paying attention, When you are looking for flavor, a Dead Guy will never let you down. If you like beer you should try it. The other one I mentioned was, :"Sixth Glass". It is 10.5% beer out of Kansas City. A little less popular than Dead Guy.

      1. I'll look. I usually drink red wine altogether, mainly Spanish, South American and Italian, but in hot weather I switch to light bubblies like Z Prosecco Brut, just barely fizzy Vinho Verde or beer. My husband likes rich full bodied beers, amber to dark. I like those sometimes but since I do most of my beer drinking in hot weather I drink mostly pale ales or something else hoppy. I never turn down good champagne. As a nice alternative to true champagne I like a very inexpensive but tasty champagne methode made by a French family out of New Mexico called Gruet.

  5. Progressive POTUS p's off  puritanical potty patrol. Poop propagates plentifully.

I can't believe how worked up students in my little rural high school are getting over this issue, on both sides. Hotly debated!! My favorite junior rednecks are calling for "freaks of nature" to be banned from restrooms, period, because you "just never know". My adorable pierced goth kids are calling them bigots… And we have plenty of out gay kids in school, well tolerated by all, yet no transgender kids that I'm aware of.

This one's really struck a nerve. Gordon Klingenschmitt, as usual, is claiming victimization:

He posted this on his Facebook, because, you know, there's this huge problem with gay people beating up Christians.

    1. That's too bad. I could see Colorado making some nice coin if Texas seceded, since we could charge $500 per head for visas to enter Colorado.

A not so nice definition of Texas: the place where Colorado & New Mexico ship their hazardous waste.

    2. The U.S. Supreme Court has said that states do not have a right to unilaterally secede. Fair enough but what if we agreed to let them go? We could do an 18-month trial separation beginning this summer. Drumpf starts the general election campaign with 38 fewer electoral votes….  wink

      1. Remember, under the treaty that brought it into the Union, Texas has the right to divide itself into up to five states.   We Gerrymander it into four reliably blue states and one overwhelmingly red one.   That one we expel.  That gives us permanent majorities in the House and Senate.   Dallas is capital of the expelled Red state, but the Cowboys are allowed to relocate to St. Louis.
