A Tancredo For Cory Gardner?

  • by: Colorado Pols

As the Colorado Republican Party continues to grapple with the fallout from gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis’ plagiarism implosion, and the resulting threat from Tom Tancredo to upend the race for governor by running on the American Constitution Party ticket, a problem with many similarities to that posed by Tancredo could be awaiting CD-4 candidate Cory Gardner.

Gardner, as you recall, ran afoul of “Tea Party” conservatives earlier this year after canceling a fundraiser starring firebrand Rep. Steve King–this resulted in a week or more of harsh disparagement of Gardner by King, his friend Tancredo, and conservative talk radio generally.

Well, since Tancredo announced his intentions to run for governor as an ACP candidate, CD-4 ACP entry Doug Aden’s candidacy is getting renewed buzz from the robust “Tea Party” organization in CD-4–and prompting Republican strategists to worry about a third-party candidate pulling votes away from Gardner. As everyone learned in 2006 with Reform Party candidate Eric Eidsness, a few thousand votes pulled one way or the other could really be decisive in this district.

The problem is, the GOP has spent the past year alienating the “Tea Party,” Gardner with his own embarrassments to tally right along side McInnis–and just like with Tancredo’s “ultimatum,” Republican kingmakers may not have control over the situation.

  1. The Federal Election Commission allows us to spend and/or collect $5,000 before filing forms.

At this point, I would like to see what you and I, as ingenious Americans, can accomplish. So we will only accept contributions on an as needed basis and keep the contribution page up until we approach that limit. We will always have the option to reactivate the page if deemed necessary.

I would love to see some direct mail from the guy targeted at Republicans to pull some votes away from Gardner.

Markey can use the help — she seems to be doing well, but the demographics in the 4th are still against her.

Though maybe Aden doesn’t want to have to file because he doesn’t recognize the FEC as a needed government agency?

    1. This year is probably the best in a long time to run as a third party candidate. People are pissed off at Democrats but don’t trust Republicans to fix it either. Aden might be a longshot, but this is not a good year for either major party.

          1. that don’t require crayons.

Unfortunately having Mein Kampf next to the Bible makes a lot of Tea Party house guests uncomfortable.

Anyway you cut it, Tea Party candidates siphon off votes from Republican candidates.  Can you say Ralph Nader using guttural sounds.

        1. The best part about it is that no matter how much I try to help you guys out, you still can’t bring yourself to believe we’re smart. I can trumpet about the intelligence of the Tea Party all I want (even back it up with polling data that shows Tea Partiers are slightly more educated than average) and you guys still won’t see the coming revolution in November. Beautiful!

          1. you still can’t bring yourself to believe we’re smart.

can’t bring yourself to understand the significance of evidence.   🙂

          2. No offense, but how could ANYONE take you seriously?

You seem to have found a home here because people will argue with you.  That’s good for you, bad for humanity.

Without the compulsive arguers here on Pols, you’d just be another pissant grad student.

Which is exactly what you are.

            1. are bored and shallow people who populate sites like this for the primary purpose of entertaining ourselves.  We know we are small and petty people but being politically incorrect has it’s rewards for those who would otherwise be brushing dog hair off the couch..

                1. at our favorite conservative foil of the moment.

I expect we’ll be in high cotton for fresh targets for derision as the election draws closer.  Better get back to brushing up on synonyms for nimrod.

            2. college with two honors degrees in very diverse degrees and going on to grad school. Not. Many people don’t make it through college, let alone grad school.

                1. Being a grad student has nothing to do with being “pissant” (which I’m not). As a supporter of higher education, I would think you would value those who take the time out of their life to go to grad school to pursue the subjects they love instead of making the big bucks. Especially since you libs think the world would fall apart without government education.

              1. Oops, I confused you with Bob Beauprez.  Sorry about that.

I have a B.S., an MS and 60 hours beyond the MS, with my latest credential being a certified paralegal.  With those credential and two bucks, I can get a black coffee at Starbucks, provided I bring my own cup.

I was considering law school but since I’d be 69 before I could pass the bar, I’ll probably leave that to the young kids like Steve Harvey, whose barely at the half century mark.  But honestly, I have found education, at least past the bachelor’s level, to be more for one’s own edification and enjoyment of life than any economic benefit.  Once I had my MS, I decided that I now had my credential and thereafter would only study things that were worthwhile.

  2. nationwide for Dems to avoid a worst case scenario in November would be to contribute to third party candidates wherever the races between Rs and Ds are close.

After all, the Clinton years of peace and prosperity would never have happened if it hadn’t been for good ol’ Ross Perot, who did really, really well right here in Colorado. In general, independent minded westerners are probably more likely to go rogue which could put or keep a few more seats in play with strong, relatively speaking, third party candidates.

Rs knew what they were doing contributing to Nader in 2000. My husband just talked to a Republican who says he temporarily switches his registration to Dem for every primary so he can vote for the ones he considers to be the weakest Dem candidates.

The counter-insurgency possibilities are endless and Rs have been employing them for decades. Time for Dem psy-ops?

      1. Think you missed my point.  My point more like Dems need to stop brininging a knife to a gunfight and start bringing , maybe, shoulder rocket launchers.

            1. little symbol in music that tells you to play that part again, as I recall. I used to be the lead singer for a rock group in Boulder by that name.

            2. Co-Dependency Association  Colorado

CODA Cofee –  Denver Wholesale Coffee Roasting

              Coda Cafe Colorado Springs

Coda Inc, Colorado CD and DVD manufacture.

But I presume Ali meant :Colorado Democracy Alliance

Interesting group of people. I met Rob Stein for about 2 minutes at the 08 DNC. And, of course, I read Blueprint
