      1. FOOL'S TOFFEE RECIPE

        1 cup butter
1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
        36 saltine crackers
11 1/2 ounces milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans, walnuts or almonds

        DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, blend butter and brown sugar. Heat to boiling and boil for 4 minutes.

Cover 10×15 jellyroll pan with foil, and butter lightly.

Place a single layer of saltines on the foil, close together. Pour butter mixture over crackers, spreading evenly.

        Bake for 5 minutes.

Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Allow to soften and spread evenly over cooked crackers. Sprinkle with nuts.

Refrigerate until cool. Break into pieces and store in a tin container in refrigerator. Will keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

      2. Again, no.

Hagan and Udall are leading again, and at the end, it'll be about Obamacare and who is the real leader.

Hint: It's not the morons on your end.

You can take off Kentucky, Georgia, Kansas, Iowa, Maine, Arkansas, Louisana and Alaska as the GOP are not expected to win there.

South Dakota is still a toss-up.

Montana will have someone replacing Walsh shortly, and it'll be enough to beat whoever is running for Senate in Montana.

West Virginia will remain Democratic. The toxic water episode earlier this month won'[t be forgotten, and those who are truly responsible are Republicans.

Gee. I don't see much of anything from the GOP side this year. They're continuing to self-destruct, and it'll be confirmed in the polls.

            1. Because AC will stop posting if we all just ignore him/her?  I certainly understand your desire, but I'm also not willing to have someone stumble upon the site looking for information and see AC stuff with no context and without rational review.

As an example, the intern stuff from the weekend.  I don't want someone believing that Udall and Bennet are somehow outliers on that.

To be honest, I also enjoy poking AC.

                1. For three reasons.  One, I have no problem with talking about negatives rather than positives.  Two, I disagree that he sets the tone.  He does make assertions, often plainly false, always biased in favor of his beliefs, that I'm interested in talking about in a less unbalanced way.  Three, this is a place to talk about ideas, no mattter how wrongheaded we may think they are, and AC has some, so why not talk.  You might as well not respond to dustpuppy.

I also happen to believe, as Christine de Pizan did, that BS can't be left to stand without challenge:

Those who plead their cause in the absence of an opponent can invent to their heart's content, can pontificate without taking into account the opposite point of view and keep the best arguments for themselves, for aggressors are always quick to attack those who have no means of defence.

              1. I'm with Pcat on this. I mostly ignore AC and can resist his "look SQuirrel!" diversionary tactics. We definitely shouldn't  let him steer the conversation.

However, if AC is talking about something I'm interested in such as voter registration, and have information about, I'll rebut, because I want to have that discussion, as Pcat says, not because I think AC will change his mind or even his talking points, (unless he gets the Rove Fax to do so). I also do like baitng him on Buck stuff, and will continue to do so.

I will save up my troll-responding quarters, though! Hoping to pool them with everyone else's quarters soon.

                1. MJ, speaking of Buck stuff, you need to check out your home boy Vic Meyers.  Here is his latest complaint:

"Something disturbing happened while canvassing today. I met a voter who said he was very glad to meet me because another very prominent DEMOCRATIC campaign was canvassing yesterday and the canvasser told him that Ken Buck doesn't have an opponent. I haven't decided yet on what I'm going to do about this. I'm waiting for an explanation from that campaign."

The other Dem campaigns will not acknowledge him.  Now that is pathetic.

        1. But just last week in the open thread, you said:

New York Times has Udall losing.

          http://www.nytimes.com/newsgraphics/2014/senate-model/history.html

          and

          PCat,

          Acceptance is difficult.

          Colorado: 53% Republican…

And then 'Pubs were 55/45.  In just one week, that has changed to Dems 61/39.  A 16 point swing in the Dem's favor.  But it shows you're right– acceptance is hard.

          drew Carnegie says:

Mon July 21, 2014 at 1:41 PM MDT

          PCat,

          Acceptance is difficult.

          Colorado: 53% Republican

          Louisiana 53% Republican

          Iowa and Alaska are even.

Toss up was defined as one party having less than a 65% chance of winning.

The poll has a total of 6 toss ups as so defined.

    1. Remember in 2012 when the rightie mantra was that women are smart and care about more than just choice and the way to get women on board was on the economic issues? Jobs, jobs, jobs, etc.?

Guess they forgot that there's decades worth of data, complete with nifty graphs, to show that the economy always does better during Dem administrations which often have to rescue it from the damage done by R administrations. Also that raising wages does not cause job loss. Also that trickle down doesn't. Also that the best days of the middle class were when unions were strong. I could go on.

They were right about one thing.  Most women are smart. That's why most of us know a load of GOTP bull when we see it.

      1. Was that before or after Todd Akin educated all of us on the differences between "legitimate rape" and whatever the hell the opposite would be?

    2. The gumba for Jersey is right again.

      The economy is great.

      The world is at peace.

It doesn't get any better than this.

      All praise Fearless Leader.

          1. goombah (plural goombahs)

            1. (US, slang, pejorative, ethnic slur) A person of Italian descent.
            2. (US, slang) A companion, pal, close friend, or associate, used especially among Italian-American men. It sometimes has the connotation of an older friend who acts as a patron, protector or adviser.

            Synonyms

            • (person of Italian descent): dago
            • (person of Italian descent): Eyetie
            • (person of Italian descent): greaseball
            • (person of Italian descent): guido
            • (person of Italian descent): guinea
            • (person of Italian descent): wog
            • (person of Italian descent): wop
              1. The term for a toasted grain snack also used to refer to a backwards white person, particulaly of southern heritage, was sufficient for one Polster to get booted.  But think how much the comment threads ould shrink if AC got the boot?  1-we wouldn't have his constant feces smearing to respond to, and 2-other Polsters couldn't prattle on about how we should not be responding to it.  80% of comment traffic gone like that…

              2. AC will weasel out of this mess, thanks to the site's liberal policy regarding Freedom of Speech and the benefit of the doubt.  Besides, if he were banned, he'd just come back as an alt, anyway, and drop hints he's back, get banned, etc, etc, etc ad infinitum.

                  1. Oh, yeah, man, I remember when sxp151 was in the box, it was a hoot.  Those are the folks I miss, the math master (sxp151) and Progressive Cowgirl and others of their ilk who could entertain me while espousing my ideals.   LB was ok, but he was no PCG.

      1. 1: It's Goombah, you twit.

2: Are you gonna challenge the facts presented?

3: Who do YOU have on your team that could do a better job, and

4: Keep "taunting" Ralphie with your chickenshit hints that you know him. I'm sure it'll end well.

          1. We could delete the comment in question, but that would also delete the comments from the Pols community that followed. In this case, the response from Polsters is more effective in addressing the issue than just deleting the comment.

            1. But Steve Harvey got the boot for "cracker."  I think "Goombah" or "gumba" is more insulting.  Where's the consistency?  Or did you just tir of SH's endless prattle?

                1. It was kind of BS becasue he was just posting info that the troll-of-that-cycle had himself already posted.  But whatever, I just stop by now and again anyhow.  I understand why outing someone is bannable. I am unsure that that is what SH did, really.  I think a penalty box is a good option for the first use of a slur, since in all reality it is not always clear what does or does not qualify.  The guvs like traffic, and I think they try to keep the cons around since they tend to drift off.   Libby got away for a long time with things far more offensive than what SH posted IMO.

              1. I wouldn't mind if AC were to be banned. We'd get fewer comments and traffic, but the quality would improve. However, if that happened, I'd like to see some outreach and recruitment of people who we think are reasonable or moderate conservatives, articulate and capable of forming a coherent argument rather than merely throwing down a link or pasting a talking point. There are actually quite a few of those folks on here already, and as Duke said, we just don't disagree that much.

If this board was Redstate or Peak, someone who threadjacks, trolls by pinning derogatory cartoons at the tops of threads, and generally poisons discussion would already have been banned.

Redstate openly says that no non-GOP candidates or positions will be posted. Peak doesn't go that far, but  everyone knows liberal posters are deleted or not allowed to post at all.  So yes, political discourse is limited by our own norms (see my comment below on liberal nationalism).

            2. So according to your non-response to my post or to my emails, it's now OK to call people niggers, coons, spics, wetbacks, and beaners.  How about kikes, polacks, or micks?  Or do you draw the line somewhere and it's OK to insult Italians?

              1. Is this addressed to me?

Cause that's a helluva lot of meaning and anger to tack onto a perceived non-response…

If those are real questions above, my answers are no, nope, and not even slightly.

My only reference for AC's  slur was a cute name for the cartoon bad guys in Super Mario Brothers, which my kids played back in the day. I had never heard it used in real life. Now I know better. Live and learn.

                1. I don't think so.  I think I traced it back to ColPols comment box. When in doubt, go to the space next to the  comment and follow it up until you find yourself inside another comment box. That's the one being responded to. It gets tough with the nesting box system and a lot of back and forth, I know. Hope I didn't lose track. Ralphie could clarify.

Since this does get confusing, when I know my response is going to be separated by bunch of boxes from the person I'm addressing I try to remember address them by name in my response.

  2. Liberal Nationalism –

Motto: "Out of Many, One" (E Pluribus Unum)

Norms:  Tolerance, Inclusivity, Compassion, Compromise, Pragmatism

Examples; integrated Armed Forces, non-discrimination laws, GI Bill, New Deal, infrastructure investment, Renewable Energy Standard, regulatory agencies,

Quote: Civic nationalism stands for unity over bigotry. It stands for equality over discrimination. Above all, it stands for the common good over "I've got mine go get yours." What could be more progressive than that?

    Patriot Movement Nationalism:

Motto:  America is in despair. "We need to take our country back!"

Norms: Paranoia, suspicion of foreigners and non-whites, delinquency on taxes (sovereign citizen movement, nonpayment of fees aka Cliven Bundy), distrust of science,  "purity" in politics (no compromise), elevation of local authority over national authority, reliance on post-reconstruction Constitution, i.e. "posse comitatus" doctrine

Examples: Patriot movement, Cliven Bundy, Constitutional Sheriffs, Oathkeepers,  RMGO

Quotes (from Sheriff Mack): ….tactically speaking, if they’re going to start killing people, I’m sorry, but to show the world how ruthless these people are, women needed to be the first ones shot.” "A day of reckoning is inevitable. Will guns be outlawed and taken away, leaving little vestige of constitutional freedom?"

  3. The other day AC claimed that a Gallop poll showing Obama approval down to 39% was evidence of a trend. The day before that Gallop had posted 41%, about the Gallop usual these days. The day after it was up to 40%. Today it's back to 41%. So much for the trend. Nothing the right is throwing at him seems to be having much effect. The numbers aren't pretty but also pretty static for weeks with little ups and downs within marin of error.

Meantime generic congressional preference polling appearing on RCP has moved up from one with a 1% Dem advantage to a poll with a 2% Dem advantage and then one with a 4% Dem advantage. Hasn't been one with even a tiny R advantage in weeks. Why don't I start happy dancing about a trend?  Because I'm not a moron.

Hope moron isn't one of those slurs that can get me into trouble.

          1. D, Ralphie is feeling a little sensitive right now.

He curses others like a sailor but when someone gets on him he wants them banned.

Ever since Ralphie was relocated from Jersey to Colorado by the federal witness protection program (it's a joke Ralphie) he has been sensitive about his roots.

There are plenty of things he should be sensitive about, but that is not one of them.

            1. Obviously AC doesn't want to discuss why a poll that suits him is a trend but any polls that look good for Dems are meaningless. And I think that witness protection remark confirms that he meant his slur as a slur.

              1. Of course he did. There's only one thing that racists like more than making racist slurs, and that's the joy they get from getting away with it.  Since reasonable people of all political parties try to avoid that sort of thing, it's a rare pleasure for them.

                1. I love the way they always accuse anyone who objects to their obvious bigotry as "playing the race card", too. That's another signature touch. Like voting as much anti-woman, vaginal probe, cancer screening clinic closing, family planning access reducing legislation as they can wherever they have a legislative majority and then claiming Dems are making it up when they point out the GOTP war on women.

It's like when kids cruelly insult other kids then say just kidding and accuse their targets of not being able to take a joke. That's what today's GOTP has sunk to.

  4. Time for AG Suthers to read the writing on the wall on marriage equality?

Today the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals joined the 10th Circuit in ruling against discrimination, affirming a ruling striking down Virginia's gay marriage ban. The case was brought by one of the state's county clerks, as the state's AG refuses to defend the ban. Following the ruling, North Carolina's Attorney General announced that in light of the ruling he also would no longer defend his state's own ban. (NC is also covered by the 4th Circuit.)

    1. OTOH, General Suthers has petitioned our Supreme Court to review the Court of Appeals decision to decline to stay the order in the Boulder District Court case against Hillary Hall.

  5. Lynn Bartels has a story out about the RGA clandestinely funneling money to support Both Ways over Tanc in the run up to the June 24 primary.  Ryan Call is doing his best Sgt. Schultz routine ("I know nothing…..").  I guess there's this quaint idea that the Republican Guvs Assoc.is supposed to be neutral.

  6. I am all for Colorado Pols to replace their entire posting system to something that is a little more comprehesible and not like FreiRepublik which is nearly incomprehensible.

Why can't Colorado Pols explore the options? Is it the cost? I have told Colorado Pols that I'm willing to donate some money to improve their discussion forum. They have responded, said that donation was not needed. So why hasn't it improved?

If you need a systems guy to help you transition – I helped a discussion board move to a new one that was more palatable for someone – like reasonably managed forum or something.

    1. Sorry about how that came out. It's the latest poll on RCP with 51% for Udall, 47% for Gardner. If I were a Dem AC I would now be bragging about this sure fire evidence of an unstoppable trend. If I were a Dem Modster I'd be crowing about how Colorado Rs must be "running scared". Also probably looking for an excuse to post my horsey cartoon again.  Since it's me, I'll just say Udall's small lead in the RCP poll average is increasing a little. Always nice to see a candidate breaking that 50% mark, even if it's just one poll. Hope it gives AC a little heartburn.

      1. Did you look at the cross tabs?

        I did.

Somehow a poll that projects more Dems than R's will be voting in the mid-term and has the Dem ahead does not concern me.

Any sensible poll will not have the order Independants, Dems and Republicans in a mid term.  It will be Republicans, Dems, Independants.
